The AFUL (Association Francophone des Utilisateurs de Linux et des Logiciels Libres - French speaking Linux and Libre Software Users’ Association). has been busy trying to obtain the reimbursement of Microsoft Windows for years, and I helped them from time to time.

After several procedures and heavy legal work, they finally obtained successful cases. In this last one, the Court ordered ACER to refund 311,85 euros to a customer who previously bought a 599 euros laptop. The detail comes as follows : 135,20 euros for Microsoft Windows XP Home (including 49,90 euros for installing fees) ; 60 euros for Microsoft Works ; 40,99 euros for PowerDVD ; 38,66 for pour Norton Antivirus ; 37 euros for NTI CD Maker.

This is not the first decision of this kind in France, but the trend is now getting stronger and clearer.

Other cases are to follow. Some will be supported by the AFUL, and other by the biggest French consumer association, the UFC-Que Choisir.

The “refund” working group of the AFUL is here (in French) : http://www.aful.org/wikis/detaxe/PageAccueil
